Hawaii Living Mochi Pounding Family Tradition

The tradition of mochi pounding, or mochitsuki, in Hawaii traces its roots back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Japanese immigrants arrived to work on sugar and pineapple plantations. We visit two families in Manoa valley and learn their history in the islands, and see how they celebrate this over 100 year old tradition in their families, and we talk with the newer generation that plan to carry on this family tradition for another 100 years!
